Pouch Positions

Snuggle Hold

Newborn to 12 months

The Snuggle Hold is perfect for newborns and babies who are happier in a vertical position (this is also a great position for burping.) To get baby into this hold, make sure the pouch is set to your tightest position. Facing baby to your chest slide him or her into the pouch. Baby’s legs can be in the pouch, or the bottom, padded rail of the pouch can be under baby’s butt with legs hanging out. The back of the pouch can be pulled up over the head, or with babies that can hold up their head, can be pulled up to the shoulders or under the arms.

Make sure the fabric on your shoulder is pulled over it forming a cap for comfort, and that the zippers are across your back. If you want to tighten the pouch slightly while it is on simply pull the inside fabric over your shoulder, essentially doubling it over. This will tighten the top rail, pulling baby tighter to you.

Front Carry

Newborn to 12 months

The Front Carry position is great for babies that can hold up their heads until about the time baby is ready for the hip carry position (6 to 12 months). For this carry, hold open the pouch with slightly more fabric at the front, face baby forward and holding babies legs in a crossed legged sitting position, lower baby into pouch. Baby wants to be in a sitting position facing out.

Hip Carry

6 months to 40 lbs.

The Hip Carry position is great for babies that can sit up on their own to 40lb toddlers. To put your child in the hip carry, put the pouch on, making sure the padded rail is against your body. Hold your child up high, almost over your shoulder, then slide his or her feet through the pouch, and begin to lower your child into the pouch, until he or she is seated on your hip. Your child should be sitting in the pouch like a bucket seat with the padded rail to the inside bend in his or her knees and the outside rail of the pouch coming up your child’s back. Depending on your child the pouch can come all the way up the back with your child’s arms in the pouch, or to the armpits, so arms are out.

If you want to tighten the pouch slightly while it is on simply pull the inside fabric over your shoulder, essentially doubling it over. This will tighten the top rail, pulling baby tighter to you.

Back Carry

12 months to 40 lbs.

This is the back carry position for toddlers. To start put baby in the Hip Carry Position, then slide baby around to your back. Make sure a second person is there to check that your child is securely in the pouch, with the padded rail reaching to the inside bend of the knees and the outside rail reaching up to the shoulders.
