Carrying Positions: Pouches

Hip Carry

6 months to 40 lbs.

The Hip Carry position is great for babies that can sit up on their own to 40lb toddlers. To put your child in the hip carry, put the pouch on, making sure the padded rail is against your body. Hold your child up high, almost over your shoulder, then slide his or her feet through the pouch, and begin to lower your child into the pouch, until he or she is seated on your hip. Your child should be sitting in the pouch like a bucket seat with the padded rail to the inside bend in his or her knees and the outside rail of the pouch coming up your child's back. Depending on your child the pouch can come all the way up the back with your child's arms in the pouch, or to the armpits, so arms are out.

Make sure the fabric on your shoulder is pulled over it forming a cap for comfort, and that the zippers are across your back. If you want to tighten the pouch slightly while it is on simply pull the inside fabric over your shoulder, essentially doubling it over. This will tighten the top rail, pulling baby tighter to you.
